BE A PART OF OUR RESEARCH

We are so happy to be hosting Amalina Md Isa, a PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales. Amalina is running a headache and the eye laboratory out of our rooms and studying our patients to gain new insights into the underlying causes of migraine, rare headache disorders and chronic pain. Her research has long term implications for new directions in the development of treatments for migraine and other headache disorders.

All headache patients at the practice are eligible to participate. Participation is optional, but is a way to make a difference to others during your headache treatment.

Amalina studies the health of the nerve endings in headache patients using a confocal microscope applied to the surface of the eye, and can analyse the content of tears to see whether the chemicals responsible for headache are present and in what quantities. To date her research has found that when patients move from having episodic migraine to chronic migraine, their nerve endings change, and once they are treated successfully the nerve endings go back to normal. This is a groundbreaking finding. We look forward to seeing what she will discover next!
